KAKEY STORY
At the kingdom of Peareansey there reigned a king named Promatoat. He had a governess named Niedkoven Konthorn, who had the most powerful magic art and very good at playing the harp, singing and reciting poems. The king got a wife named Keo Kakey, who was incomparably beautiful. Born out of a white flower, she sported a fragrance all over the body. This pleasant sent would fade away seven days after having spent time with her. The king Promatoat was so pleased with his wife that he promoted her to be the superior among his concubines.
There was a powerful Garuda staying in his magnificent divine Seumpai palace. The Garuda was very mighty, able to fly across oceans and to transform himself into what he desired to be. He often went playing chess with the king Prumatoat, with either side the winner or the loser. One day, feeling like playing the chess again with the king, he flew across an ocean and arriving at a fig tree where he made himself a man so handsome that it would be hard for a woman to resist loving him, and then started to enjoy playing chess with the king.
Having not seen her husband, Keo Kakey asked the maids who said that the king was playing chess at the far end of the hall with a very good-looking lad. After being told, Kakey was very curious. She went to the far end of the hall and fondly looked at the man she desired to have as her husband. While playing chess with the king, then Garuda happened to spot Keo Kakey staring at him, and started to feel loving her. He said to himself: "What a beautiful lady! Her beauty is unmatched. She must be the queen". Feeling the Garuda' s eyes on her, Kakey pretended to release the cheesecloth off in order to show off her body, making the Garuda so passionate that he almost flung himself at and hugged her. But he tried to calm himself f down by waiting to finish playing the chess first.
When the sun was about to set, the man said good-bye to the king, thinking of a way to steal the woman, and left. Arriving at a big fig tree, he uttered magic spell to go back to his original Garuda, displaying his mighty power and flying into the sky with a deafening roar, darkening the skies and causing violent stormy rain and wind which amazingly shook the earth. Seeing this breath-taking miracle, the king went and was seated in front of his officials who also crowded to see this unusual event.
The Garuda flew into Kakey's room and started to cajole the woman. Kakey heard every word of the Garuda, but did not reply, and instead she pretended to be deep in a sound sleep. But the Garuda understood this pretence well. He carried the woman and flew back to his Seumpali kingdom.
Laying her on the bad, the Garuda turned himself into a very good-looking divinity and lied down to embrace Kakey. Kakey pretended to stare at the Garuda and pushed him away before starting to say: "You should not love me because I am already married. Besides, you are the king's friend. Don 't you have any feeling of pity with the king? If I agree to live with you and later you fall in love with
any of the celestial lads, I will feel miserable and be cursed at for committing adultery with the Garuda. And you will also be blamed for secretly taking someone's wife to the Seumpali kingdom.
The Garuda replied: "No one knew that I brought you here. Don't be worried. I have no affection of any celestial lasses. After persuading her, the Garuda was able to enjoy staying with Kakey, who then started to ignore everything, even her husband, the king.
The king, after the storm caused by the Garuda died down, went to see his wife in the bedroom, only to find her disappearing. He then had everyone look for her every where, but to no avail. He could not figure out the reason, then he order Konthorn in to explain to his about the incident. Konthorn, who was well aware of the reason, said to the king: "While Your Majesty was playing chess with the guy, I saw the queen stand at the doorstep looking at him. And the man gestured back with a smil e. T think the guy is weird. He has never bowed down in respect for Your Majesty. I am afraid he is a garuda who disguises himself as a man to amuse himself with Your Majesty, and takes the chance to take the lady to Seumpali. We will just learn in the next seven days".
With Kakey in his arms, the Garuda jubilantly flew to Mount Meru, where he recounted major mountains, forests, valleys, rifts, rivers, oceans, seas and other scenarios, and then returned to Seumpali.
Seven days passed after the Garuda set the date to play chess with the king. He said to himself that if he failed to show up, one would become suspicious. He then said good-bye to Kakey and uttered magic spell to tightly close the palace door. The Garuda played chess with the king as usual but felt bit guilty. Late in the afternoon, the man transformed himself into his original shape and flew back to Seumpai, unaware of being followed by Konthorn, who turned himself into a tiny bug perching onto his fur.
At down, the Garuda left Kakey to look for food in the jungle and used magic spell to fasten the palace's door. When the Garuda left, Konthorn, who also was there, turned himself into human shape and approached Kakey in order to win the love from her. After cajoling her, Konthorn was able to joyfully spend the day with Kakey, who started to ignore her new lover the Garuda. Konthorn and Kakey met every time the Garuda left to find food.
Seven days passed and Konthorn knew very well that the Garuda would go to play chess with the king, and he then made himself a small insect, which once again pierced onto one of the Garuda 's furs and came back to the palace. Late in the afternoon, the Garuda left the king and went back to his kingdom. Konthorn then came in to inform the king about infidelity of Kakey, who committed adultery not only with the Garuda. but also with him. Realizing that this behavior was in violation of the past practice, where no wife of all the monarchs had ever dared to do likewise, the king and Konthorn started to map out plans to separate her from the Garuda.
Seven days went by and the Garuda came and played chess with the king as usual. The king stared at Konthorn, who started without delay to play the harp and to recite a song about the love affair Kakey and he had together for seven days at the Seumpali kingdom. After having heard the song, the Garuda was extremely mad and embarrassed. He then bid farewell to Preas bat Promatoat.
Back at Seumpal i, the Garuda used magic spell to open the door and went to see Kakey. He tried to control himself and talked to Kakey about her adulterous behavior with Konthom while he was away. The Garuda scornfully said to Kakey: "Keo Kakey! You are a detestable swan that looks good only in your outer appearance, but very abominable inside. Having realized that the Garuda knew everything, Kakey wept and begged for mercy. However hard she tried, the Garuda's anger did not die down.
The Garuda replied: "Your emotion is like the flowing water that does not care about whatever the river may be. I will take you back to your kingdom tonight". Carrying her in the arms, he flew to Peareansey. Laying her on the royal court, he said: "While being with me, you felt that one male partner was not enough to appease your lust. Now you can enjoy yourself with as many men as you like. From now on till the nirvana, may all these misfortunes be not with me". The Garuda then unemotionally flew off on the way back to Seumpali.
The king woke up in the early morning, took a bath and left the room. He saw Kakey be seated in the royal court and started to see red, but tried to calm himself down and teased Kakey: "My dear! You go and enjoy yourself in the paradise, while I am suffering, yearning for your return. I could not sleep day and night. Now you are in front of me and why you look so heartless. I used to love you, to promote you to be superior than the other concubines, and to have many maids around to attend to you. I cannot understand why you change your mind by giving your love to The Garuda, and secretly confining yourself in Seumpali kingdom. After seven days, you choose to love Konthorn. I cannot have you any more".
After hearing this, Kakey knelt down to beg for pardon, weeping and trying to make up an excuse: "I do love Your Majesty. Nothing can change my mind. During the storm, the bloody Garuda carried me and flew off. Although I tried hard to call you, Your Majesty did not hear it and come to my help". "At his kingdom, the Garuda was very powerful. He forces me to love him. I am a woman who could not
protect myself. I always feel very sad because of missing you. I asked the Garuda to stop loving me . After seven days, Konthorn arrived at Seumpali and told me that Your Majesty was very sad. It was so
shocked that I fell unconscious. I cannot understand why Konthorn dared commit indecent act on me. I am destined to be in this unfortunate condition. I do not lie to Your Majesty, really".
Preas bat Promatoat was very angry after hearing what Kakey recounted, he said: "You coquette! I am a king, and still you dare to lie to me. Having you here is a real trial. When this news reaches other kingdoms, they will mock at me". The king then had his soldiers place Kakey on a raft and let it drift off the dock. After having carried out the order, the soldiers came back to report to the king, who then said: serves her right".
Riding the raft, which was blown further into the deep sea, Kakey felt very lonely. She kept weeping unceasingly and felt nostalgia for the past, when she was the inferior, most noted concubine, and later was elevated to the rank of the king's superior wife, with no other concubines enjoyed the same privilege. She also missed spending her joyful time at Seumpali, and this was ruined by the ridicule made by Konthorn, leaving her to suffer miserably. "Dear me! How scared I am! Here appear big fish, and there come the waves as high as mountains...
What a pity! The raft drifted farther and farther into the sea, where it was thrown lip and down by the waves. After seven days, the waves smashed the raft, drowning Kakey in the deep sea.
